2.      PURPOSE

  • Supports and maintain physical changes to computer databases; and codes, tests, and implements physical database by performing the following duties.
  • Implement database system requirements by defining and analyzing system problems; designing and testing standards and solutions.
  • Provides detailed personal advice and guidance to all users in the effective use of Systems, products and services available to them; demonstrates ingenuity in applying knowledge to non-standard situations.

  • The position is responsible analyzing, designing and implementing computerized systems within DPM

4.      PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensure all computerizes applications, programs and database systems have accurate data for decision making.
  • Immediate accountable to Senior Database Administration, Database Administration and subsequently Executive manager, Management Information Services Division.
  • Effective managing Online Database Systems within DPM.

5.      MAJOR DUTIES

  • Monitoring system performance and identifying problems that arise.
  • Responding in a timely manner to user-reported errors.
  • Protecting the database against threats or unauthorized access.
  • Ensuring that the database is adequately backed up and able to be recovered in the event of memory loss.
  • Reporting on metrics regarding usage and performance.
  • Suggesting changes and improvements for maintenance or protection.
  • Regularly liaising with IT project managers and database programmers.
  • Designing databases with both front-end and back-end users in mind.

6.      NATURE AND SCOPE

  • To Support and maintain internal Department’s Database Systems

6.1 WORKING RELATIONSHIP

(a) Internal

  • Reports to Senior Database Administrator (SDBA), Manager-Database Administration and subsequently
  • Other managers and line staff within the division and DPM

(b) External

  • Supports Clients in Provincial Administration, Provincial Health Authority (PHA), Hospital

9.      QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

(a) Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering
  • Diploma in Computer Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, or Networking Technology from an appropriately accredited institution

(b) Knowledge

  • Database Security
  • Software Design, Software Documentation,
  • Software Testing, Software Maintenance,
  • Software Development Process, Software Requirements,
  • General Consulting Skills, Software Architecture
  • Database Management and Data Maintenance
  • Programming language; Oracle, SQL, PHP, Java, C, C++, C#, etc. (at least 3 programming language must be able to write and read.)
  • Information Security Policies
