2. PURPOSE

      To maintain and reconcile the Bank Reconciliation

3. DIMENSIONS

4. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Reconcile bank balances against expenditure records
  • Ensure expenditure records comply with the Public Finance Regulations

5.   MAJOR DUTIES

  • Record details of cheques raised and issued against expenditure balance
  • Maintain records of transactions and advise the Accountant of expenditure and any shortfalls
  • Monthly reconciliation of bank statement against expenditure records
  • Ensure bank reconciliation of Drawing Account

6.1  WORKING RELATIONSHIP

(a) Internal

  • Reports to Accountant
  • Consult with the Accountant on claims/cheques raised
  • Liaise with other Accounts staf

(b) External

  • Liaise with the Department of Finance and Treasury
  • Liaise with the Bank of Papua New Guinea

(a) Qualifications

  • Certificate in Public Finance/Accounting/Bookkeeping
  • Certificate in Accounting
  • Diploma in Accounting/Business

(b) Knowledge

  • Public Finance Regulations
  • Public Sector Accounting System
  • Computerized accounting system (IFMS)
  • Relevant Public Finance procedures and instructions
  • Public Finance (Management) Act and Financial Instructions
  • Public Service (Management) Act
  • Have some basic knowledge on computing application

(c) Skills

Ability to demonstrate the following skills at a proficient level;

  • Basic bookkeeping
  • Numerical skills

  • Communication (written and oral)

(d) Work Experience

  • A minimum of six (years) work experience in Public Finance/Accounting/Bookkeeping
  • Experience with IFMS and Bank Reconciliation processes
