1. PURPOSE

 

To plan, co-ordinate and supervise security personnel on daily basis with a view to ensuring that departmental staff safety, buildings and other related installations are maintained at all times.

2. ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensure that departmental staff safety is maintained at all times.
  •  Ensure the safe keeping of departmental property and equipment.
  • Screen and monitor movement of clients/and visitors to and from the work station.
  • Maintain daily checks on safety equipment and emergency exits.
  • Prepare and submit fortnightly reports to Security Manager on security issues.

3. MAJOR DUTIES

3.1  Direct, supervise and take charge of a shift of security personnel.

3.2  Record all daily security related matters as they occur in the Occurrence Book.

3.3 Guide and assist security staff in the performance of their assigned duties.

3.4  Determine duty priorities and ensure appropriate responses are made.

3.5 Ensure security staff are properly relieved before standing down from duty.

3.6  Investigate and take appropriate security preventive measures on incidents which occur within the departmental premises.

3.7 Provide security escorts to the Secretary, Department of Personnel Management and the Public Service Minister.

3.8 Assist departmental staff in attending to routine queries at the security reception area.

3.9  Ensure that all internal security preventive measures are enforced and implemented effectively as required.

3.10 Notify immediate superiors and of any significant security incident which arises during a shift.

3.11 Carry out other duties as directed in line with the above.

4. REPORTING AND WORK RELATIONSHIPS

(a)   Internal

  • Reports directly to OIC Security

(b)   External

  • Liaise with other counterparts in other Government Departments and Agencies.

5. POSITION AND PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

(a)   Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 certificate
  • Previous security experience is essential
  • Must possess at least class three (3) driver’s licence
  •  Must have sober habits, reliable, honest, clean police records and be physically fit

(b)   Knowledge

Must have a sound understanding of: -

  • Security procedures and processes.
  • Departmental Internal Circular Instructions on internal control measures issued from time to time and Departmental Functional Roles and Responsibilities.
  • Radio and telephone communications.

(d)   Work Experience

A minimum of five (5) years work experience in the security industry in the Public/Private Sectors with an additional five (5) years in a supervisory role.
