Designation : ASSISTANT SECRETARY - VET CURRICULUM (Code- EDU25-01193)

Job Description / Responsibilities:

1. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
1.1 Oversee the identification, formulation, and development of all curriculum materials as required per specific subjects categorized under Vocational Education & Training for all vocational centers.
1.2 Oversee the organization and management of all Vocational Education & Training Curriculum branch’s programs by guiding the Senior Curriculum Officers in the planning and implementation of curriculum tasks and use of resources.
1.3 Oversee the research and compiling of all draft, trial, and completed curriculum materials for the Vocational Education & Training Curriculum Branch.
1.4 Oversee the training of Technical Secondary School, Technical High School and Vocational Education and Training teachers in Competency Based Training and Assessment, Curriculum Implementation In-Service Training and VET Curriculum Audit.
1.5 Organize and conduct relevant advisory committee meetings and workshops for specific subjects categorized under Vocational Education & Training, Technical Secondary/High Schools.
1.6 Advise and approve local authorities in the development of locally relevant curriculum materials in regard to specific subjects categorized under Vocational Education & Training.
1.7 Mentor, coach and encourage section heads and staff to achieve excellence in their work area and authorize training for the officers.
1.8 Provide leadership and guidance to curriculum officers in the activities of curriculum development including Competency Based Training and Assessment, Curriculum Implementation In-Service Training and Vocational Education and Training Curriculum Audit at VET, TSS and THS.
1.9 Oversee and facilitate Curriculum Audits, Curriculum Implementation and In-service Training and Unpacking of Training Packages for effective delivery of National Certificate programs in VET institutions.
1.10 Perform any other duties as directed by the First Assistant Secretary for Curriculum Development.

2. QUALIFICATIONS, WORK EXPERIENCES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
2.1 Qualification:
The minimum entry requirement for this position is a Bachelor degree or higher;
2.1.1 Bachelor’s Degree in Education/Teaching or relevant.
2.1.2 Post graduate or Master’s degree Education Leadership or relevant is preferable.
2.1.3 Certificate IV in Teaching, Assessment and Evaluation (TAA/TAE)
2.2 Work Experience:
2.2.1 Must have 8-10 years’ work experience with the schools systems.
2.2.2 Must have had 4 - 6 years’ experience as managers of the curriculum development process as well as having particular subject expertise
2.2.3 Have at least 2 - 3 years’ experience in managing the Curriculum Development
2.3 Knowledge:
2.3.1 Must have content knowledge of the education system and its curriculum.
2.3.2 Knowledge about the education system and its functions, policies and its mission towards basic education for the people of PNG.
2.3.3 Have an excellent command of English and one of the major subject areas in curriculum
2.3.4 Sound knowledge of Teaching and Teaching Pedagogies
2.4 Skills:
2.4.1 Excellent communication and writing skills
2.4.2 Must possess good review and reporting skills
2.4.3 Computer literate
2.4.4 Must have good management and public relation skills
2.4.5 Must have interpersonal communication skills
2.4.6 Ability to meet section’s deadlines
