Job Description / Responsibilities:

1. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

1.1 Co-ordinate the day to day activities of the Secretary.

1.2 As directed by the Departmental Head to carry out investigations into and provide appropriate advice on specific related matters of concern and interest to the Departmental Head.    

1.3 Under the direction of the Departmental Head, liaise with appropriate bodies within the country and overseas on matters of mutual concern and interest, for example;    

  • Following up action on decisions which are required to be implemented.   
  • Obtain appropriate information from concerned and related bodies and advising or preparing reports or briefs on the same.    

1.4 Examine and monitor quality of official correspondence, briefs and reports requiring the signature of the Departmental Head.    

1.5 Examine and provide written summary of the main points of reports for the Departmental Head.        

1.6 Carry out research into related problems and documents as identified by the Departmental Head and compile findings and reports for his/her use.    

1.7 Assist the Departmental Head in preparation for important meetings and conferences, including the drafting and writing of speeches and briefs, schedule of travel and protocol matters.    

1.8 Accompany the Departmental Head to selected meetings and conferences to act as Executive Officer.   

1.9 Manage general administrative tasks such as drafting letters, memorandums, classification of correspondences and viewing of systems and procedures in the Office of the Departmental Head.

2. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

2.1 Qualification:

  • Master’s in Business Administration with an additional qualification in Education is desirable.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field of Education and Management.

2.2 Experience:

  • 5 -10 years senior management experience in a complex and diverse organization.

  • Department of Education’s system, policies and reforms.
  • National Government’s system, policies and reforms.
  • International Relations and issues which include protocol matters.

2.4 Skills:

  • Strategic management & leadership skills

  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Communication skills, both written and oral.

K61,478 – K75,140
