Job Description / Responsibilities:

1. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

1.1. Provide strategic leadership in delivery of guidance and counseling services to schools by ensuring the development, review, implementation and assessment of guidance and counseling programs are meeting the needs of students.

1.2. Support the work of guidance and counselling officers through providing resources and administrative support to ensure delivery of guidance and counseling services to schools.

1.3. Conduct research on provision of guidance and counseling services as to develop necessary policies, or review of programs to meet the changing needs of students.

1.4. Manage the day to day administrative responsibilities to assist with the achievement of the guidance and counseling outcomes.

1.5. Ensure to have necessary meetings with subordinates to inform officers when identifying problems and propose improvements in service delivery.

1.6. Facilitate the personal development plan for the subordinates to ensure relevant training opportunities are secured for officers to improve knowledge and skills.

1.7. Effectively and efficiently manage the office budget ensuring transparency in all actions.

1.8. Incorporate Gender Equity and Social Inclusion Principles and values of Honesty, Integrity, Accountability, Respect, Wisdom and responsibility in programs, activities and initiatives to foster positive work ethics.

2. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  2.1. Qualification

2.1.1. The minimum entry requirement for this position is a Bachelor degree or higher;

2.1.2. Bachelor’s Degree in Education/Teaching or in Social Work or Counselling.

2.1.3. Post graduate or Master’s degree in Education Leadership or relevant is preferable.

2.2. Experience

2.2.1. 8 – 15 years’ teaching background. 

2.2.2. Proven experience in Guidance and Counseling. 

2.2.3. Must have been a Deputy Principal or Principal in a High or Secondary School.

2.3. Knowledge

2.3.1. The position requires:

2.3.2. A professional who is able to motivate, assist, lead, appraise and report on guidance and counseling officers.

2.3.3. An understanding of the factors influencing the effective and efficient management of the performance of schools guidance and counseling programs.

2.3.4. Sound understanding of Government priorities for schools as detailed in the NEP

2.3.5. Sound knowledge of the Education Act, the Teaching Services Act, the Public Sector Finance Management Act and other legislation as applied to schooling.
